In her ongoing research at IPEM, Aminata Soumaré connects MoCap technology to Ableton Live generating sound through movement.
By using the body to trigger and manipulate samples, she reimagines the stereotypical representations of Black women in media—like the hypersexualized "Jezebel," the nurturing "Mammy," and the angry "Sapphire."
Experimenting with IPEM’s ambisonics setup, she also spatializes sound, creating an immersive listening experience. In this presentation, she will share her process, demonstrate her setup, and reflect on the possibilities of using movement based sound generation.
