Dr. Alessio Bellato (University of Southampton, University of Nottingham Malaysia) will lead an interactive workshop titled “Introduction to Evidence Synthesis” for Ph.D. students at the University of Ghent.
Evidence synthesis, defined as “the process of systematically selecting, summarizing, and appraising data from multiple sources”, involves gathering data from past studies to draw conclusions, assess the support or refutation of theories, and identify research gaps that need addressing before solid conclusions can be drawn. The importance of evidence synthesis in fields like psychology, psychiatry, and healthcare, has grown significantly. Studies such as systematic reviews and meta-analyses are in fact instrumental in helping clinicians, policymakers, and researchers make informed decisions and recommendations for clinical practice. During the workshop, Dr. Bellato will introduce Ph.D. students to the method of evidence synthesis and will equip them with basic skills to plan future evidence synthesis studies.
Before attending the workshop, attendees are encouraged to read the following blog published by Dr. Bellato on THE Campus: “Evidence synthesis: what every student (and researcher) should know”.
