Registration via https://event.ugent.be/registration/JuliaDS2024 from 31-10-2023 17:26 until 02-02-2024 17:29
Julia is a fast, general, dynamically typed programming language for scientific computing. Its features are well-suited for numerical analysis and computational science. This course aims to provide an extensive introduction to Julia to kickstart those PhD researchers who want to incorporate it in their research and to create a solid foundation for Julia novices.
Our course consists of three days (5-7 Feb 2024), going from a basic introduction to becoming a scientific Julia power user.
Day 1:
Morning theory: Basics, collections, types
Afternoon project: cellular automata
Day 2:
Morning theory: types (advanced), metaprogramming, illustration of interesting packages
Afternoon project: uncertainty bands, make your own matrix type.
Day 3:
Advanced Julia projects. Using existing packages for challenging scientific projects, including data science, robotics, simulation and web scraping.
Participants can follow the full three-day course, day 1 & 2 or day 2 & 3. Day 1 might be skipped if one already uses Julia regularly (but it can be a good refresher), and we recommend only following day 3 if one is already quite comfortable in scientific programming.
