From the very start of his rule, Vladimir Putin aimed at creating an autocracy and suppressing all political institutions: media, parliament, judiciary, etc. And that was the fate of the Russian opposition. Putin started by destroying liberal pro-western opposition in the Russian parliament. And moved on to chasing every dissenting voice on the Russian streets.
About the speaker:
Mikhail Fishman, born in 1972, is an independent Russian journalist and TV presenter who has been covering Russian political affairs since the late 90s. He served as the editor-in-chief of the Russian Newsweek from 2008 to 2010 and later held the same position at The Moscow Times from 2015 to 2017. Currently, he works as an anchor at TV Rain, a prominent Russian independent news network. Fishman is also the author of the bestselling biography "The Successor: The Story of Boris Nemtsov and the Country in Which He Didn’t Become President" (2022).
