Feedback is a constant through a doctorate. Feedback on writing, presentations, research design, papers and communication…the list goes on. For something so common, it’s striking how difficult it can feel – both to receive and to offer.
In this one-day, in-person workshop (or two half-days online), we practice with models and approaches that explain the process and our reactions. We’ll also give you tools to receive and process feedback wisely and offer it considerately. It may not always be easy, but it can be genuine, effective and kind.
By the end, you will have begun to:
Recognise different functions of feedback and work with them
Shape a suitable environment, mood and mindset for feedback
Navigate common communication difficulties constructively
Notice how you process feedback and the emotions that arise
Understand resistance and strong reactions to feedback
Apply practical models for receiving and giving feedback
Devise a personalised ‘script’ for receiving and sharing feedback
