Description

The 1st CPAF was successfully held in September 2021. Consisting of eight seminars, this one-week forum received numerous compliments from participants and organizers. The 2nd edition of CPAF was held in October 2022, and the number of seminars increased to seventeen. The aim of CPAF was to promote cooperation in education and research between Ghent University and its partner universities in China and to create a platform for scientific exchange. 

From 27 of November until 1 December 2023, the East Asia Platform will organize its 3rd edition of CPAF. In accordance with Ghent University's respect for diversity, innovation and inclusiveness, this year’s forum consists of nine seminars covering a wide range of disciplines and focusing on very actual themes.

The targeted audience for this CPAF 2023 are Ghent University alumni as well as academic and administrative staff, students and researchers from Ghent University and its partner institutions in China.

This seminar series is being organized with the support of colleagues from the following partner universities:

CPAF Seminar 2 “Green and Energy Geotechnics”

Webinar co-organized by: Chongqing University (Dr. Jinquan Shi) - Ghent University (Prof. Bruno Stuyts)

This seminar will take place on November 28, 2023 - 14:00-18:30 Beijing Time / 7:00-11:30am CET

With the climate change, environmental pollution and energy shortage in the current world, geotechnical engineering is facing the challenges of reducing environment impact, promoting infrastructure resilience, recycle and utilizing green energy, among others. The seminar aims to give a platform for the Ghent University alumni to present the recent development of new theories, techniques, and materials in the field of geotechnical engineering, contributing to the infrastructure safety, green energy and sustainable society.   

The following topics will be the focus of this seminar:

- Offshore geotechnical engineering

- Advance in tunneling 

- Sustainable materials in geotechnical engineering

- Bio geotechnics

Besides an inspiring scientific programme, conference participants will be offered the opportunity to network and discuss potential collaborations.

CPAF Seminar 3 “Epidemiology and Control Strategies of Chronic Diseases”

This seminar will take place on November 30, 2023 - 15:00-18:00 Beijing Time / 08:00-11:00 am CET

This session will bring together alumni of Ghent university, Hebei Medical university, Monash University, Peking University, Jinan University and Shanxi Medical University in the field of epidemiology and medical statistics to share knowledge and good practices and to develop new corporation.

The programme consists of an opening ceremony with representatives from Ghent University and Hebei Medical University, followed by presentations of keynote speakers on topics including “Research progress in drug epidemiology of chronic diseases”, “Generalized propensity scoring method based on high-dimensional covariates and its application”, “Chronic disease prevention and health management”, “Climate change and population health”.

CPAF Seminar 4 “Sino-Belgium Symposium on Sustainable Constructions”

Webinar co-organized by: Tongji University (Assoc. Prof. Wei Jiang) - Ghent University (Prof. Kim Van Tittelboom) 

This seminar will take place on November 30, 2023 - 15:00-19:00 Beijing Time / 08:00-12:00 am CET

Our upcoming academic forum will explore diverse aspects of sustainable construction, ranging from the use of super absorbent polymers, to X-ray based modeling methods, to striking the right balance between material environmental impact and potential energy savings within the realms of concrete materials, structural engineering, and sustainable construction practices.

CPAF Seminar 5 “The Integration and Development of Chinese and Western Buddhism”

This seminar will take place on November 30, 2023 - 15:00-18:55 Beijing Time / 08:00-11:55 am CET

This session will bring together alumni of Ghent University, University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Renmin University of China, etc. in the field of philosophy, literature and Buddhism to share knowledge and good practices and to develop new cooperation.

The programme consists of an opening ceremony with representatives from Ghent University and University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, followed by presentations of keynote speakers on topics including “Fusion of three Religions”, “The Ideas of Buddhism Aesthetic Appreciation and the Literature”, “Western Buddhism”, “Chan(禅)”, etc.

At the end, there will be a closing remark and a summary to highlight the results and strengths of these collaborations. We hope this forum can help everyone in better understanding the historical evolution of Chinese Buddhism and appreciating the interaction between Chinese and Western Buddhist philosophy.

CPAF Seminar 9 “Cultivation of Bi/Multi-Lingual and Transcultural Competence”

This seminar will take place on 13 December 2023 - 15:00-18:00 Beijing Time / 08:00-11:00 am CET

This seminar sets the stage for inclusive, multidisciplinary discussions on cultivation of bilingual/multilingual competences and(or) transcultural competences in tertiary education at the new era of China-Europe cooperation, which will bring together Ghent University alumni and leading scholars in multiple fields of humanities and social sciences to share their latest findings, inter-disciplinary insights, and experiences from various perspectives, and to promote cooperation.
