TARGET AUDIENCE
Researchers who want to make their REDCap or Excel data ready for analysis in SPSS
 

CONTENTS 

• Data management: importing data (from REDCap and from excel), labelling, sorting, merging, restructuring from wide to long (and vice versa), identifying duplicate cases, selecting cases for analysis, …
• Data transformations: recoding, computing, aggregating, ranking, calculating with dates, manipulating strings, …

The course is an elaborated version of Module 1 from the course “SPSS for Life Sciences and Medicine”, which was given last year

Please note that this course does not cover any statistical analysis

LANGUAGE
The course will be given in Dutch, but the slides are in English

SOFTWARE
Both the point-and-click interface as well as syntax will be used in IBM® SPSS® Statistics Version 28 (available on Athena)

PREREQUISITES

• No particular skills in SPSS or knowledge about statistical tests are required 
• Access to SPSS is needed (either installed on the computer or via Athena)

DOCTORAL SCHOOLS
The complete course can be recognized as a Specialist Course by the Doctoral Schools of Life Sciences and Medicine 
Requests for funding by the Doctoral Schools need to be submitted at least one month prior to the start of the course (before October 10, 2023)

CANCELLATION POLICY
From the moment of registration for a course and receipt of the automatic confirmation email, the cancellation conditions below apply

Cancellation by the course participant
Cancellation is possible as long as the course has not yet started, by sending an email to secr.biostatistiek@ugent.be

• If the cancellation occurs at least one month before the start of the course, there will be no additional costs
• If the cancellation occurs within one month up to one week before the start of the course, an administrative fee of 25 euros will be charged
• If the cancellation occurs less than one week before the start of the course, 25% of the registration fee will be charged in addition to an administrative fee of 25 euros

As an alternative to cancellation, an enrollee can have himself replaced by a colleague for participation in the course. This must also be notified in advance via secr.biostatistiek@ugent.be

Cancellation by the Biostatistics Unit
The Biostatistics Unit reserves the right to cancel a course or postpone it to a later date

• In the event of cancellation, the amount already paid will be refunded
• If a course is rescheduled, the enrollee may either participate in the course on the new date(s) or cancel participation at no charge with a refund of the amount already paid
